Math Madness

Skills Needed: Child needs to have mastered addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Time: Tuesday: 615 to 7:30
Fee: 35 CHF/ per lesson 140 CHF/month

The Montessori math and geometry materials are extraordinary! Children are able to fully understand very advanced concepts by manipulating the materials which have a built in self correction. Working abstractly is always the goal. In this special class, students are taken at their individual level and progress from there. The following topics can/will be covered depending on the beginning skill of the child upon commencing at the Montessori House:

Mathematics:

· Long multiplication
· Long division
· Multiples, greatest common multiples
· Divisibility
· Powers of numbers and exponential notation
· Fractions: concept, equivalency, simplifying, whole numbers, mixed numbers and math operations with both same different denominator
· Decimal numbers: concept, and math operations
· Percentages
· Relationship between fractions, decimal numbers and percentages
· Positive and negative numbers
· Squaring, polynomials and trinomials
· Cross multiplication (finding the answer to long multiplication in your head)
· Cubing: numbers, binomial and trinomial
· Square roots
· Cube roots
· Basic algebra and physics

Geometry:

· Angles: measuring, relationship between two angles, and parts of an angel
· Lines and relationship between two parallel lines with a transversal
· Kinds and parts of triangles
· Kinds and parts of quadrilaterals
· Kinds and parts of polygons
· Parts of a circle, relationship between straight line and circle, relationship between two circles
· Pythagorean theorem and Euclidean’s statement
· area: triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons and circles
· Volume: prisms, pyramids and solids of rotation
· Lateral and total surface area
